How to purchase a Genie unlimited streaming pass (iOS)

iOS users can purchase a Genie unlimited streaming pass via App Store!

#1. Go to your App Store and sign-in with an Apple ID in which the country/region is South Korea. If you do not have one, follow this tutorial (Step 1 and 2) to create a new Korean Apple ID.

Note: We recommend creating a new Korean Apple ID rather than changing the country of your existing Apple ID since this may lead to losing your previous purchases associated with your existing Apple ID.

 

#2. Download the Genie app once you are redirected to the Korean App Store (or click here)

 

#3. This is how the main page should look like when you tap on the Genie app.

 

#4. Tap “더보기 (More)” on the bottom right corner (screenshot #3) to sign-in and tap on “로그인 (Sign-in)”. Make sure to sign-in via Kakao Talk/Facebook/Twitter.

 

#5. Once you have signed in, go to the main homepage and tap on “이용권 (Streaming passes)” on the top right hand corner (screenshot #3). All passes last for 30 days and include unlimited streaming. Purchase a pass and stream!

IMPORTANT
This event is valid only until 8/2 and offers one free Melon streaming pass per Melon account. One streaming pass is good for 30 streams. Since one stream per hour is counted in the Melon hourly charts, this means that one streaming pass is only good for 30 hours. Please create as many Melon accounts as possible and stock up on the streaming passes!

#1. Sign into your account at www.melon.com.
Click here to go to the event page. Scroll down to the event section and choose either options for Step 1 and Step 2.

#2. Tap on the red button and confirm that you received a streaming pass (“PPS 30 이용권”). If you did not receive a streaming pass, try again using a different Melon account.

Copy your coupon code and tap “쿠폰등록 (register coupon)” to activate your streaming coupon.

#3. Paste your coupon code and tap “등록하기 (register / activate coupon)”. Done! Now you can start streaming!

IMPORTANT
1) Streaming on mute is perfectly fine and is counted in the Melon charts!
2) One stream per hour is counted in the Melon hourly charts, thus stream at least once every hour to support Samuel’s digital music sales. We recommend creating a 1-hour playlist once the new album is released and streaming the playlist on repeat!
3) Often times you will realize that the songs have paused after prolonged period of repeated streaming (usually after 6~8 hours). Check from time to time to make sure that the songs are being streamed!

 

#1. Tap the Melon app to be directed to the main page. You will be able to see new releases and the hourly chart. On August 2, 4 pm (KST), Samuel’s new album will be listed in the “최신음악 (New releases)” section. Tapping on the albums listed in the new releases section will lead you to the album page and you will be able to choose the songs to stream from that page.

Tap the Search button to search for songs / albums / artists.

 

#2. Search for your song to stream.
#2-1. You can tap on the song and immediately start streaming it by tapping “재생 (Play)”. Or you can add it to a playlist by tapping “담기 (Add to)” and then either “재생목록에 담기 (Current playlist)” or “플레이리스트에 담기 (Other custom playlist)”.

 

#2-2. Tap on the album to be redirected to the album page. Make sure to give it five stars, a heart, and a comment for Samuel!

Tap on the song to either start streaming or add to playlists.

 

#3. Tap on the musical sign button on the bottom left to go to the playlist window. You will be able to see the songs in your current playlist. You can also tap “플레이리스트 (other playlists)” on the top and choose a custom playlist that you have created.

 

#4. Tap any song that you want to start streaming! Tap on the round album art button on the bottom left for more info on the current track that is being played. Make sure to click on the heart! You can also choose to set the playlist on repeat.

Note: If you do not have a streaming pass, you will only be able to listen for 1 minute as shown in the example below (and this is not counted in the Melon charts!). Make sure you are streaming with a valid streaming pass / coupon!

 

#5. If you want to create a custom playlist or add a song to a custom playlist, tap “담기 (Add to)” – “플레이리스트에 담기 (add to playlist)” as shown in screenshot #2-1 and #2-2. You will be able to see the custom playlists that you have created and also create a new playlist.

In the playlist window, tap on “플레이리스트 (playlist)” and choose the custom playlist you would like to stream.

Note: This tutorial is for iOS device users. As of now, international fans can only purchase a Melon unlimited streaming pass via an App Store account. Android users can stream using the free Melon 30 stream coupons (click here for a tutorial).

#1. Go to App Store, scroll down and tap “Sign in” (sign out first if you are already signed into another account). Tap “Create a new Apple ID”. Choose your country/region as “대한민국 (Republic of Korea)”.

#2. Agree to the Terms and Conditions and enter your credit card information. Enter any Korean address as your billing address. Some examples include

#3. Once you have created a Korean Apple ID and been redirected to the Korean App Store, download the Melon app (or click here).

 

#4. Tap on the Melon app. This is how the main page will look like.

 

#5. Sign in by tapping on the button on the top right hand corner (screenshot #4). If you do not already have a Melon account, tap “회원가입 (Join Melon)” and follow the tutorial here.

 

#6. Tap on the top left hand corner of the main page (screenshot #4) to purchase a streaming pass. All streaming passes below include unlimited streaming and is valid for 30 days starting from the date of purchase. Tap on the pass that you would like to use and purchase!

How to create a Melon account with your email

#1. Click here to go to the registration page. Tap “이메일 인증 가입 (Join with email) ” and register using an email address. It is not necessary to write your name in Korean.

Note: Only certain email accounts are accepted. We recommend using @gmail.com, @daum.net, @hanmail.net, @yahoo.com, @naver.com, and @nate.com accounts. Also, one Daum ID can be used as two email addresses (@daum.net and @hanmail.net) so you are able to create two Melon accounts with one Daum ID.

 

#2. Enter the verification code sent to the email address you registered with. Proceed with entering the rest of the required information.

ID: 6~30 letters
PW: 8~20 letters. Should be a combination of alphabetic letters + numbers. Special characters are also allowed.
Nickname: 2~15 letters in either Korean or English

#3. Once you scroll down and click on “가입 완료 (Finish)”, you are done! Click “Confirm” to be redirected to Melon homepage.
